Hollywood’s Most Iconic Fur Moments In Film

January 12th, 2016

Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Marilyn Monroe in The 7 Year Itch. Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.
Long after their time on the silver screen, we still talk about these films, the lovable lead female characters, and the iconic fashion moments they embodied.

While we’re the first to ooh and aah over new trends in fur fashion, there’s something about a glamorous blast from the past.

With the York Furrier 85th anniversary just around the corner in March, we couldn’t help but feel nostalgic and take a look back at some of the most iconic fur moments in Hollywood history and how they influenced today’s fur fashion trends.

In the 1945 film Mildred Pierce, Joan Crawford plays a strong, independent woman with a wardrobe to match. Crawford ultimately won the academy award for the roll. Notice how the vertical pelts on this luxurious fur coat create a glam silhouette.  (photo: lookatthesegems.com)  For a modern take on this look, here is a Michael Kors designed Natural Canadian Sable Pull-Over with a horizontal pelt detail.  A chic classic coat for elegant evenings and a contemporary couture fur style for daytime drama.

In Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, one of Marilyn Monroe’s most adored films, the screen siren encompasses old Hollywood glam at its finest. Two of the film’s fur looks include a long fox stole and a beautiful white mink coat. (photos: pinterest.com)

This Modern Mink is made for both glam or on the go. Here, the York Signature Style Natural White Mink Flounce Jacket with Crystal dyed Fox Trim is paired with a Swarovski crystal embellished retro styled evening bag and worn over a Peach Carr Designed Dress.  Fur with attitude!

Her Iconic leopard pattern coat with matching hat are just as sought after NOW as they were THEN. Emulate the still on trend fur look worn by Ms. Streisand with this Zac Posen designed stenciled chevre jacket. It pairs perfectly with leggings and boots or a sleek pencil skirt.  (Streisand photo: pinterest.com)

Fans of Sex in the City watched season after season of Carrie’s fashion blunders and wonders, but THIS moment is undeniably perfect. On their way to New York Fashion Week, Samantha wears a classic white mink coat while Carrie is in a knit fur wrap in chinchilla colors. (photo: popsugar.com)
