Designer Zuki WOWS with Artistry in Fur

Colorful. Distinctive. Chic. Detailed. And definitely Unique. Designer Zuki Balaila has a knack for creating eye catching fur coats with uber cool detailing sure to stand out as part of your wardrobe AND as pieces of art. The award winning Zuki (a previous York Furrier Designer of the Year!) is a world renowned designer whose creations have been appreciated by both the young and young at heart since he began selling under his namesake label in 1986. Working with mink, fox, sable, chinchilla and other glamorous pelts, Zuki’s specialty is definitely his sheared beaver creations. Utilizing his signature Intarsia technique, in which he creates intricate patterns and designs using inlaid color and mixed medium textures in fur has become a hallmark of Zuki’s coveted collections. He’s also known for overseeing the entire production process, which shows in the meticulous detailing and high quality of his garments. Zuki furs stand apart from those of other modern designers in that they’re extremely geometric and pattern centric. He considers fur an artistic medium and dares to push traditional boundaries, incorporating everything from bold patterns and color blocking to flowers and galloping horses. Yes, horses.

Perfectly practical.

Before we dive into Zuki’s wild side, take a look at two of his more classic (with a twist) fur coats. Both of these walking coats are easily worn as everyday outerwear by a woman on the go. A black fur coat is every woman’s must-have, and in typical Zuki fashion, this one is all dolled up with some bling. Created from sheared beaver and Persian lamb, this fur garment’s versatile design offers a contemporary cut and form flattering style. The same goes for this Grenadine sheared beaver coat. The grooving is a fresh and young twist on a traditional fur coat style. The subtle pattern work is oh so sophisticated while the bold color is meant for the spotlight of attention.

Zuki Designed Red Sheared Beaver Coat

A Zuki coat for the grown up flower girl. Daisies, poppies, wildflowers – wear your bouquet with any number of Zuki’s floral Intarsia coats. This onyx dyed sheared beaver walking coat boasts girly pinks, purples, yellows and reds, as well as jewel detailing throughout. The variety in color on top of a rich black gives you options when it comes to accessories. We love the look kept simple with a pop of red in these leather gloves! This luxe sheared beaver coat with mink detail and Russian sable trimmed collar and cuffs was custom created for a York Furrier client who desired to have a one-of-a-kind, show stopper to wear to her many black tie and cocktail events. Surely she is making a grand entrance (or exit) in this Zuki masterpiece!

In Autumn colors of brown, black and beige, the look is super chic and works great as a neutral. While the rich red color pattern offers a statement making look for those that prefer standing out from the crowd. Can’t decide on a color? Walking canvas. Zuki’s abstract pieces are every bit as beautiful as they are fun and flirty … and oh so artistic! This sheared beaver blouson zip-up jacket boasts just enough pop without going overboard. Because it’s designed to fit a little roomier, we recommend pairing it with you’re your skinny jeans (or leggings) by day and a slim skirt and tall boots for an evening look. Another Zuki fave is his wave patterned sheared beaver walking coat in red and black and adorned with jewels. This fur garment also offers versatile day into evening use. Just throw it on and you’re ready for work or weekend wear.
