Men’s Leather 101: What to Wear Now

As the weather gets colder in Chicagoland, guys and gals have started to bundle up in the latest Fall and Winter trends. And while we could talk lady-like fashion and glam furs all day every day, girls don’t get to have all the fun. This season, we love everything leather for the lads. From a classic cut in black, to handsome browns, there isn’t a better time of year to break out this timeless menswear staple. Here are a few of our favorite leather looks – on Hollywood hunks and the Remy leather model!

Keep it Classic: Season after season, year after year, the simple black leather jacket will ALWAYS be in vogue. Keep it young by wearing a form fitting waist length jacket with an on-trend stand-up collar. Bradley Cooper is known for his laid back look, and this leather jacket fits his personality perfectly. Keep it edgy with black on black – like Cooper – or go classic with a plain white sweater worn with denim as shown here.

Feeling Formal: If you’re looking to dress up your leather look, this ultralight lamb leather blazer can be paired with dress pants or jeans. The longer cut fits like a sports coat. So dress it up accordingly for a big night clubbing in the city or a nice dinner in the burbs.

The New Hue: Brown is the new black when it comes to leather jackets in menswear – from mustardy-beige to rich chocolate. Matthew McConaughey, a Texas native known for his southern flare, pairs his brown leather jacket with a matching belt and slightly darker shoes. Rock your own take on McConaughey’s look with this chocolate brown ultralite lamb leather zip-up jacket from the York Furrier Fine Outerwear Collection.

Show Your Leather Some Love: One of our favorite characteristics of leather is how well it handles everyday use. There’s something about a jacket that looks well loved – the material starts to soften, it gets lighter in certain areas, etc. That said, like all natural materials, leather requires some basic care, mainly in regard to dryness. Leather loses its natural oils overtime, so it’s important to clean and condition it periodically. The York Furrier Staff will professionally hand clean, re-color, and provide Ultraguard protection for your leather jacket as needed. Stop by either our Deer Park Town Center or Elmhurst City Centre store locations to browse our extensive selection of leather jackets and car coats; and talk with a York Furrier associate about the best options for specialized care for your leather garments.
