Winter Trend Report: Shearlings, Capes and Prints Galore

‘Tis the season for fabulous furs and stylish fine outerwear! At York Furrier, we love keeping an eye on the runway (and the sidewalks of Chicagoland) to determine what’s hot in cool winter wear. Last year there was a big push for pops of color, this year it’s back to basics, neutrals and naturals. We’ve listed three of our must-have winter 2014-2015 looks below.

Chic in Shearling: Not only is shearling super comfy and warm, there’s just something very natural about the look. In browns and beiges, shearling has a rustic, authentic vibe. In color, it’s oh so rich. Either way, many of this year’s looks focus on luxe fur trims and detailed stitching. Stand out in a crowd with this Red Merino shearling hooded coat with Finn raccoon trim. Or be a beauty in butterscotch with this coat that features a detachable hood with matching fox trim.

Wonderful Wraps, Pretty Ponchos, & Cool Capes: This easy wearing style is very in vogue right now, and we love all the soft silhouettes of this year’s wraps, ponchos and capes. No longer reserved for the west, ponchos come in high end materials such as cashmere, wool and fur. For something classic in color and pattern, this houndstooth cashmere cape with dyed Norwegian fox trim is chic and elegant. To glam it up, this Bisang designed black velvet sheared ranch mink cape boasts a strong silhouette with a shapely collar and a detailed design. Both looks are topped off with matching head coverings – a Norwegian black fox headband on the left and a natural ranch mink and velvet cloche hat on the right.

Go WILD for Animal Prints: Bold, feminine and timeless – everyone is rocking animal prints loud and proud this season. From classic leopard to more exotic prints, like giraffe and zebra, animal prints are a sultry way to make a statement. Stay subtle with this Bisang designed stenciled natural blue iris mink walking coat. Or let your wild side out with this Zandra Rhodes designed stenciled calfskin coat. And while the prints are eye-catching, the neutral colors keep them from being over-the-top.

Winter Wedding Wear: While we are highlighting the winter wear trends, we must share some love with those tying the knot this season! Capes, shawls wraps and stoles are the perfect way to add a touch of elegance to your big day AND stay warm while walking down the aisle or for your outdoor photos. And for a really vintage vibe, opt for a fur muff to keep hands warm. Not looking to buy? York Furrier has a fabulous rental program for weddings and other special occasions.
