Congrats from York Furrier to Debutante Sheridan Holliday

“Diamonds & Pearls” - The Chicago (IL) Chapter of The Links, Inc. hosted the 60th Annual Cotillion

On Saturday, April 29, 2023 at The Fairmont Chicago Hotel, Fenwick High School Senior, Sheridan Holliday, was one of 26 young ladies to be presented as a Debutante at the 60th Annual Cotillion hosted by The Chicago (IL) Chapter of The Links, Inc. in partnership with The Links Foundation, Inc.

Daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Christopher (British) Holliday, Sheridan was sponsored by Link member, Mrs. Annette Johnson. For Sheridan, becoming a third generation Debutante felt like a “rite of passage” as Sheridan joins her grandmother, Mary Louise Holliday (1965 – Delta Sigma Theta Cotillion) and her mother, British Nicole Holliday (1985 – IDC Christian Cotillion), in being selected for this prestigious honor. Each year, the Debutante candidate selections are made based on an exemplary criterion of academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and volunteer service to their community. Sheridan’s qualifications excel in all three areas.

With a passion for service, science, social justice and singing, Sheridan already leads a very active and involved life. At Fenwick, academically, she is a member of the National Honor Society, takes AP courses, founded the school’s Women in STEM Club, and will be graduating with the school’s highest honors – Honors with Distinction.  As a student athlete, Sheridan has played volleyball on both Fenwick’s team and at the club level. Other extracurricular activities include being a state-ranked vocal choir competitor, serving as a delegate for the Model United Nations, and serving as V.P. of the Black Student Union. Sheridan works part-time as the Assistant Program Director at a Senior Lifestyle organization, The Sheridan at River Forest, where she created the “Tech Talks with Sheridan” program to help mature adults better utilize their cell phones and computers.  Looking to the future, Sheridan has been accepted to Northwestern University in Evanston (her father’s alma mater!) where she plans to major in clinical and developmental psychology.

York Furrier enjoyed photographing Sheridan throughout the Elmhurst City Centre as she modeled several gorgeous YF Collection Furs. Though the photo shoot day was overcast, Sheridan’s beaming smile and vivacious charm shined brightly to light-up to the camera lens. Though difficult to narrow down to only a few photos, the final choices appeared in the evening’s keepsake program book.

Via the spectacular annual Debutante Cotillions, the Chicago (IL) Chapter of The Links, Inc. has been able to contribute over one million dollars to assist many grateful national and local charitable organizations.  With the 2023 Cotillion Chair, Joy West, and Co-Chair, Robye Scott, at the helm, this year’s event is expected to raise and award $50,000.00 in community grants to support four not-for-profit organizations:  Ignite (which addresses homelessness for those aged 14 – 26), Bronzeville Children’s Museum (the only Black-led children’s museum in the U.S.), Girls Inc. Chicago (part of a national organization serving girls from 5 – 18 years old to help them reach their full potential), and Gilda’s Club Chicago (a cancer support network).  York Furrier was thrilled to contribute to the success of this year’s fund-raising goal by honoring Debutante Sheridan Holliday!  We wish her “Great Success!” in all her future endeavors.
